CONFESSION

The Officiant says to the People

Let us humbly confess our sins to Almighty God.

Silence is kept. All kneeling, the Officiant and People say

Almighty and most merciful Father,

We have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep.

We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts.

We have offended against your holy laws.

We have left undone those things which we ought to have done,

and we have done those things which we ought not to have done;

and apart from your grace, there is no health in us.

O Lord, have mercy upon us.

Spare all those who confess their faults.

Restore all those who are penitent,

according to your promises declared to all people in Christ Jesus our Lord;

And grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake,

that we may now live a godly, righteous, and sober life,

to the glory of your holy Name. Amen.

The Officiant then prays

Grant your faithful people, merciful Lord, pardon and peace; that we may be cleansed from all our sins, and serve you with a quiet mind; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O Gladsome Light
Phos Hilaron

O gladsome light

pure brightness of the everliving Father in heaven,
O Jesus Christ, holy and blessed!

Now as we come to the setting of the sun,

and our eyes behold the vesper light,
we sing your praises, O God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

You are worthy at all times to be praised by happy voices,
O Son of God, Giver of Life,
and to be glorified through all the worlds.

The Psalm or Psalms Appointed

Psalm 33

Exultate, justi

1 Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous;*

it is fitting for the just to be thankful.

2 Praise the Lord with the harp;*

sing praises unto him with the ten-stringed lute.

3 Sing unto him a new song;*

make skillful melody and cry aloud with joy.

4 For the word of the Lord is true,*

and all his works are faithful.

5 He loves righteousness and true judgment;*

the earth is full of the goodness of the Lord.

6 By the word of the Lord were the heavens made,*

and all the hosts of them by the breath of his mouth.

7 He gathers the waters of the sea together, as in a heap,*

and lays up the deep, as in a treasure house.

8 Let all the earth fear the Lord;*

stand in awe of him, all you that dwell in the world.

9 For he spoke, and it was done;*

he commanded and it stood fast.

10 The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to naught;*

he makes the devices of the peoples to be of no effect, and casts out the counsels of princes.

11 The counsel of the Lord shall endure for ever,*

and the thoughts of his heart from generation to generation.

12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,*

and blessed are the people he has chosen for himself to be his inheritance.

13 The Lord looks down from heaven and beholds all the children of men;*

from the habitation of his dwelling he considers all those who dwell on the earth.

14 He fashions all the hearts of them*

and understands all their works.

15 There is no king who can be saved by a mighty host;*

neither is any mighty man delivered by great strength.

16 A horse is considered a vain hope to save a man;*

neither shall it deliver anyone by its great strength.

17 Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon those who fear him,*

and upon those who put their trust in his mercy,

18 To deliver their soul from death,*

and to feed them in the time of famine.

19 Our soul has patiently waited for the Lord,*

for he is our help and our shield.

20 Our heart shall rejoice in him,*

because we have hoped in his holy Name.

21 Let your merciful kindness, O Lord, be upon us,*

as we have put our trust in you.

After the Psalm, the Officiant begins

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Luke 2:29-32

Lord, now let your servant depart in peace,*
according to your word.

For my eyes have seen your salvation,*
which you have prepared before the face of all people;

To be a light to lighten the Gentiles,*
and to be the glory of your people Israel.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;*
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world

The Apostles' Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS
OThe Lord be with you
AAnd with your spirit.
OLet us pray.

OLord, have mercy
AChrist, have mercy
OLord, have mercy

AOur Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.

OO Lord, show your mercy upon us;
AAnd grant us your salvation.
OO Lord, guide those who govern us;
AAnd lead us in the way of justice and truth.
OClothe your ministers with righteousness;
AAnd let your people sing with joy.
OO Lord, save your people;
AAnd bless your inheritance.
OGive peace in our time, O Lord;
AAnd defend us by your mighty power.
OLet not the needy, O Lord, be forgotten;
ANor the hope of the poor be taken away.
OCreate in us clean hearts, O God;
AAnd take not your Holy Spirit from us.

O God, by the leading of a star you manifested your only Son to the peoples of the earth: Lead us, who know you now by faith, to your presence, where we may see your glory face to face; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

O God, the source of eternal light: Shed forth your unending day upon us who watch for you, that our lips may praise you, our lives may bless you, and our worship on the morrow give you glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Almighty God, Father of all mercies,
we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks
for all your goodness and loving-kindness
to us and to all whom you have made.
We bless you for our creation, preservation,
and all the blessings of this life;
but above all for your immeasurable love
in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ;
for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory.
And, we pray, give us such an awareness of your mercies,
that with truly thankful hearts
we may show forth your praise,
not only with our lips, but in our lives,
by giving up our selves to your service,
and by walking before you
in holiness and righteousness all our days;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit,
be honor and glory throughout all ages. Amen.

OLet us bless the Lord.
AThanks be to God.
OThe grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all evermore. Amen.
